Terms of use
By using isitlegal.com.au (the site), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the site.
What this site is
The site publishes general information about Australian law. It is not legal advice, it is not written for your circumstances, and it must not be relied on instead of advice from a lawyer. The site is not a law firm, does not provide legal services, and using it does not create a lawyer–client relationship. See the disclaimer, which forms part of these terms.
Accuracy and currency
We take accuracy seriously. Every page cites the legislation it is based on and shows when it was last updated and last checked. But laws change, and we do not warrant that any page reflects the law at the moment you read it. Always check the official legislation register for the current law.
Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy under the Australian Consumer Law, or under any other law, that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Subject to that, and to the fullest extent the law allows: we give no warranty that the site or anything on it is accurate, complete, current or fit for any purpose; we accept no liability for any loss or damage, including indirect or consequential loss, arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site; and we are not liable if the site is unavailable, interrupted, or does not work as you expect.
Where a law allows us to limit rather than exclude our liability, our liability is limited to the maximum extent that law allows.
Copyright
Legislation quoted on this site is Crown copyright of the relevant Commonwealth, state or territory government. Extracts are reproduced unaltered, with attribution and a link to the official version, in the Sources panel on each page. They are not official versions, and reproducing them here does not mean the relevant government endorses this site or anything on it.
If you think we have used material you own rights in, and used it in a way you object to, email hello@isitlegal.com.au. Tell us what the material is and where on the site it appears, and we will look into it and remove it if we should.
The site's own content — our writing, structure and design — is © isitlegal.com.au. You're welcome to link to any page or quote a short extract with attribution. Please don't republish substantial parts of it, commercially or otherwise, without asking. We do not permit the use of this site's content for text and data mining or for training machine-learning models.
Links and ads
We link to legislation registers, courts, regulators and other outside websites. We don't control them and we aren't responsible for what's on them, or for what happens if you rely on them. A link isn't an endorsement.
Where the site carries display advertising, the ads are chosen by our advertising provider, not by us. We don't check, endorse or take responsibility for advertisers or anything they say, and no advertiser has any say in what a page here concludes.
Acceptable use
You must not use the site unlawfully, attempt to interfere with its operation, or scrape it at volumes that degrade it for others.
If you use the site unlawfully or in breach of this section, you are responsible for any loss or cost we incur as a result.
Changing and withdrawing content
We can change, correct or remove any page at any time. We don't promise to keep any page online or to keep it up to date. If you think a page is wrong, email hello@isitlegal.com.au. When we change a page, the change is recorded in that page's history.
Changes to these terms
We can change these terms, and the disclaimer, at any time and without telling you first.
The version that applies to you is the version on this page at the time you use the site. A new version takes effect the moment it is posted here. Changes only work forwards — a new version does not change the terms that applied to a visit you already made.
Every version is dated at the bottom of this page. If you don't agree with a change, stop using the site. That is the remedy, and it costs you nothing: the site is free, there are no accounts, and there is nothing to cancel.
If part of these terms doesn't hold up
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, that part is cut out and the rest still applies. If we don't enforce something in these terms straight away, we don't lose the right to enforce it later.
Contact and governing law
Questions and corrections: hello@isitlegal.com.au.
These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland. If you're a consumer somewhere else in Australia, this doesn't take away rights or protections that the law of your own state or territory gives you and that can't be excluded.
Effective from 31 Aug 2026.
